A KPI is a single number you want to track over time, like Sales Revenue or Customer Complaints. Creating one by hand gives you full control over how it's measured, so it's the best place to start when you know exactly what you want to track.

Add a KPI

Head to the KPIs page. Pick the category you want the new KPI to land in using the category selector at the top of the toolbar, then create it.

  1. Click Add a KPI. A panel slides in from the right.
  2. Give the KPI a name, and pick an icon if you'd like one. A short description is optional.
  3. Under When will this KPI be entered?, choose the period: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly. This sets how often you'll record a value.
  4. Under What is the Format?, choose how the number is shown, such as a currency, a percentage or a plain count.
  5. Click Save.

Your KPI appears in the list straight away, ready for data.

Set the finer details

Open More Options in the same panel to shape how the KPI behaves. You can add a target, choose the direction that counts as good (Up, Down or None), decide whether values are summed or averaged over a period, and set your Red, Amber and Green thresholds. For daily KPIs you can also pick your working week, so weekends aren't flagged as missing.

Pick the period carefully. Once you've recorded values against a KPI the period locks, because the shape of the data depends on it. If you're unsure, start monthly and create a second KPI if you later need finer detail.
